Founded in 1907 in Detroit by immigrant Russian bakers Ben and Perry Feigenson, they began making soda pop based on frosting recipes. The reason for the business change? Perry claimed the hours were better. As the Feigenson brothers business grew, in1921 a decision was made to shorten the company’s name from Feigenson Bottling Company to simply Faygo. Faygo made “a rainbow of flavors.” In 1972 Mort Feigenson claimed they used 107 ingredients to produce 28 flavors. The Fegenson’s developed and guarded a long list of secret recipes. The company remained family owned until 1986.
