The corporate logo, still used today, was sketched on a napkin when the first store opened in 1959. The “Pizza Pizza Two Great Pizzas One Low Price” marketing concept was begun in 1971, although the phrase “Pizza! Pizza!”, was not introduced until 1979. The “deal” was originally served in a single long box that housed both pizzas, which customers found awkward. The slogan stayed, everywhere but in Canada, but the big box went away, everywhere. In Canada the company cannot use the phrase “Pizza! Pizza!” because a pre-existing restaurant, named Pizza Pizza, had already registered the phrase for commercial use in that nation.
